Dragons down MUS 6-1

The Collierville varsity baseball team improved to 4-3 on the season Monday after beating MUS 6-1 at home. Bo Sutton was the winning pitcher for the Dragons, who will host John Paul II of Hendersonville, Tenn. on Friday before playing at unbeaten Christian Brothers on Saturday. The Dragons opened their 2015 season on last week with a bang, scoring 15 runs in four innings to register a 15-0 win over visiting Covington in front of a large opening day crowd at Drew Lawrence Field. The Dragons were never challenged, leading 6-0 after two innings before a seven-run third inning put the game out of reach. The big blow in the third was a bases-loaded, three-run double to the gap in left-center field by Bryan Doss. Alex Hicks and Parker Cathey each had two hits for Collierville. Doss drove in three runs, while Corbin Thurman and Clay Murphy each had two RBIs. Peyton Culbertson got the win, hurling a scoreless first inning in his season debut, striking out two and allowing only an infield single. Alex Johnson and Justin Fowlkes combined to throw three hitless innings in relief, striking out five. TOP: Junior Parker Cathey slides home against MUS on Monday.
