Stamps appointed alderman

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen has selected John Stamps to serve the remainder of the Alderman Position 5 term.
The position opened last month after the passing of longtime Alderman Jimmy Lott.
The town received 22 applications for the open position and the BMA had 30 days to fill the vacancy.
Alderman Maureen Fraser was the first to nominate Stamps, who is currently chairman of the Collierville Planning Commission and owner of The Stamps Real Estate Company.
Alderman Billy Patton abstained from the vote, with Mayor Stan Joyner and Aldermen Fraser, Tom Allen and John Worley voting in favor of the appointment.
Stamps, 51, was defeated by Patton last November for Position 2 Alderman.
“I graduated from Leadership Collierville in 2004,” Stamps said while campaigning last year. “Since then, I participated on the Leadership Collierville Board for years, Board of Zoning Appeals for five years, Historic Commission for one year, (2012) 2040 Land Use Steering Committee, Main Street Collierville Board for years, and Planning Commission Board for two years.
“I feel the last 10 years have given me experience in many different areas of Collierville and prepared me to serve as Alderman in 2015,” he continued.
