McCord completes basic training

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Davis D. McCord of Collierville has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
McCord completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Board increases funding for schools

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen has voted to increase the amount of money that the town will set aside for its municipal school district.
During the budget process for the 2013 fiscal year, board members decided to allocate $250,000 for expenses related to the creation of a municipal school district.

Town’s jobless rate sees slight increase in October

Collierville’s jobless rate climbed more than a point last month to 7.5 percent.
According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the town’s rate increased 1.4 percent in October, representing 1,690 unemployed individuals.
The rate remains down compared to last year’s rate of nearly 8 percent.
Collierville’s labor force is comprised of 22,500 residents.

Lady Dragon’s win streak ends

The Collierville High School girls’ basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Monday against Memphis FCA. The 3-1 Dragons lost the close contest 53-42 at home. Dragons fall to 1-4 on season

The Collierville High School boys’ basketball team fell to 1-4 on the season Monday night after a 72-59 loss at the hands of Memphis FCA. The Dragons will travel to 1-2 Bolton Friday night.
