Collierville’s unemployment rate remains the second lowest in Shelby County and the ninth lowest in the state.
According to data released last week by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the town’s jobless rate for January was 5.1 percent, or five-tenths of a percentage point lower than January’s rate of 5.6 percent.
Collierville’s rate remains nearly 3 percent lower than Memphis and reflects an estimated 1,200 unemployed residents out of a labor force of 23,350 residents.
Germantown had the county’s lowest rate at 4.9 percent, followed by Collierville and Bartlett (5.5 percent).
Among Shelby County municipalities with a population over 25,000, Germantown has the smallest labor force. Bartlett’s is 29,440.
The jobless rate in Memphis was 8 percent in February, the second highest among Tennessee cities with a population over 25,000. At 8.2 percent, Morristown has the highest rate.
Williamson County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate in February at 4.3 percent.
Shelby County was 7.2 percent in February, down from 8.1 percent the previous month.
Tennessee’s preliminary unemployment rate for February was 6.6 percent.
The national rate for February was 5.5 percent, down two-tenths of one percentage point from the previous month.
