Howell named Miss Collierville

Elyssa Howell captured the 2014 Miss Collierville title on Jan. 11 during the 19th annual Miss Collierville Scholarship Pageant at the Harrell Theatre.

She will serve as the town’s official ambassador and make numerous public appearances throughout the year.

Howell, 19, received $8,400 in educational scholarships and will represent the Town of Collierville at the 2014 Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant this summer.

A graduate of BriarcrestChristianSchool, Howell is a freshman at the University of Mississippi. As Miss Collierville, she hopes to encourage leadership development in our youth.

She sang, “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” for her talent performance.

A 15-year-old Hutchinson student captured the judge’s attention with her incredible voice to win the title of Miss Collierville Outstanding Teen 2014.

Olivia Shawky sang “Nothing Compares To You” for her talent performance. She will go to the Miss Tennessee Outstanding Teen Pageant on March 15 in Jackson, Tenn.

Shawkey is actively involved in supporting “Best Buddies,” an organization dedicated to establishing one-to-one friendships and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In addition, Shawkey, along with Howell, will work closely with the ColliervilleParks, Recreation and Cultural Department on youth-related events throughout the city, as well as with Volunteer Mid-South.

Fourteen area young women competed for the prestigious titles by showcasing their talent, beauty and personality before a sell-out crowd at the Harrell Theatre.

Educational scholarships totaling more than $26,000 were presented to this year’s contestants. Scholarship sponsors of the 2014 Miss Collierville Scholarship Pageant included Patton Computers, Patriot Bank, Schilling Farms, Triumph Bank, The Silver Caboose, Maureen Fraser of John Green Realtors, Hampton Inn, Harris Quon Auto Services, J&B Childress Photography, Southwest Tennessee Community College ,as well as a host of individuals and local businesses – including Newk’s, LuLu’s Boutique and STIX of Carriage Crossing.
