The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will consider a conditional use permit on Monday for Bumpus Harley Davidson of Collierville that would allow the business to display motorcycles outdoors and to host “small-scale” reoccuring outdoor events.
In 2003, the town’s Board of Zoning Appeals granted Bumpus a conditional use permit for motorcycle sales at 325 S. Byhalia Road with a condition that prohibited the outdoor display of merchandise. Eight years later, Collierville revised its zoning regulations to allow the “customary” outdoor display of vehicles for the purpose of sales.
In September 2011, the board denied a request from Bumpus to allow reoccuring on site outdoor events.
Noting that the initial request for events was “much larger in scope,” Jaime Groce, town planner, said the current request limits events to once a month.
The 2011 request included weekly events, a maximum attendance of 200 people, the sale of alcohol and that 21 percent of the 5.3-acre site be used for the events. The current request includes an attendance cap of 75 people, no alcohol sales and states that only 5 percent of the site be used for events. The same amount of space requested for the outdoor display of motorcycles.
The nearest residential development to Bumpus is more than 1,500 feet from the business on the other side of Nonconnah Creek.
