Interim fire chief nominated for official position

Collierville Mayor Stan Joyner has nominated Buddy Billings as the town’s next fire chief.

Billings was named interim chief in February after the retirement of Jerry Crawford.

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen will vote Monday night to confirm Joyner’s nomination.

Billings would be the town’s ninth fire chief.

He has been with the Collierville Fire Department for more than 37 years and has served for over 22 years as chief of fire prevention.

A graduate of Collierville High School, Billings began his fire service career as a volunteer fire fighter with CFD at the age of 16. He was hired as a fire private in 1979.

Billings is the past president of the Tennessee Fire Safety Inspectors Association and Tennessee Public Fire and Life Safety Educators Association.

“Chief Billings’ background in Fire Department operations will be a valued asset during this time of transition within the Fire Department,” Town Administrator James Lewellen said when Billings was named interim chief. “The experience Chief Billings has in both managing operations and providing leadership to the firefighters will provide assurance that the Fire Department will continue to function with responsiveness and professionalism while the Board conducts a search to fill the vacant Fire Chief position.”
