At around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, a vehicle pulling a trailer with a Bobcat lost control and slid into a power pole at the intersection of New Byhalia and Poplar Ave. in front of the La Hacienda restaurant.

Traffic on Poplar going east beginning at Byhalia is still being detoured. Traffic going west on Poplar beginning at Highway 72 is also being detoured.

The trailer carrying the Bobcat hit a power pole and pulled cable and AT&T lines downs across Poplar.

Moments after the accident occurred, Collierville Police, Fire and Public Services Crews began working to make the area safe and control traffic.

MLG&W crews arrived to make the area safe concerning electric lines allowing crews to begin the process of removing the Bobcat and trailer from Poplar and begin repairs.

Initially it was a concern that a number of businesses along Poplar could be without water. However, the water services will be on.

Members of the Special Citizens Volunteer Police, Public Services Crews along with staff of the Public Information Office went door-to-door informing the business of the status of traffic and water service.

Water service to a few business along New Byhalia toward Maynard Way will experience interrupted water service for a few hours.

“We expect to have a few lanes of Poplar open soon but the one of the west lanes will be closed well into the late afternoon until the Public Service
Crews are able to make further repairs,” said Mark Heuberger, public information officer for the town.

No injuries were reported in the accident.
