Mustangs win championship

The Houston Lady Mustangs used a 14-4 run in the second half to beat Germantown 59-47 on Saturday in the championship game of the District 15-AAA tournament. Senior guard Jaida Roper carried the Mustangs with 22 points, many of which came in the second. Jayla Hemingway added 15 points. Destinee Manning and Breaunna Burks combined to score 27 points for the Red Devils. Down just 28-24 at the half, Germantown lost any momentum in the third quarter when they were outscored by 10 points. Houston will now host Hamilton this Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Region 8AAA tournament as the No. 1 seed. Germantown will host White Station on Friday as the No. 2 seed. Should they advance in the tournament, both teams will play on Monday at Hamilton High School. Houston would play either No. 2 seeded Central High or No. 3 seeded Ridgeway.
