County’s prescription program has saved participants more than $4 million since 2010

Shelby County recently marked the fourth anniversary of its partnership with the Coast2Coast Rx program, the county’s free prescription discount card that offers savings on prescriptions and other health care services.

The Coast2Coast Rx Card has now saved Shelby County residents more than $4 million. Since its launch in June 2010, nearly 14,000 participants have used the card to fill 108,390 prescriptions with average savings of 63-percent off the retail price in the county.

Shelby County’s endorsement of the program is based on the card’s ability to save consumers on their prescriptions and other healthcare services. The program requires no administration work by the participating county or organization, and generates revenue for public programs—providing $1.25 to the county for each prescription filled using the card.

“We look forward to saving residents of Shelby County millions of dollars every year,” said Martin Dettelbach, chief marketing officer for the Coast2Coast Rx program. “As many consumers struggle with the high cost of medications and health care expenses, the card allows consumers to save on their needed prescriptions while creating a revenue stream for their community.”

To date, these funds are being used to assist with the distribution, production and translation of educational and promotional health materials and referral resources targeted at underinsured and uninsured Shelby County residents for numerous programs.

Consumers can access the card by printing it from the Coast2Coast Rx website at

The Coast2Coast Rx card allows all county residents, regardless of income, age, or health status to participate in the program and save on the cost of medications. The program has saved cardholders throughout the nation an average of 60 percent in 2015 on the cost of prescription drugs. Pets and people living outside the county are able to take part in the program.

The Rx card is distributed free of charge and can be used at all pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies in Shelby County.
It includes more than 60,000 drugs in its formulary.
