The founders of Germantown’s Public Art Promenade couldn’t have found a better description for the introduction of sculptural pieces to the city’s streetscapes. Promenade is defined as a stroll or walk, especially in a public place, as for pleasure or display.

The pleasure was experienced countless times over the past year as residents and visitors encountered eight works of art as they strolled in and around Germantown Performing Arts Center, Athletic Club, Community Library, City Hall, Civic Club Plaza, Farm Park and Public Services Center. The resounding success and enthusiastic response to that display made clear the public interest in a repeat performance. The promenade continues, with seven new pieces and three acquisitions from the initial year’s collection, at previous and new locations around the city.

The sculptures will continue on display through August 2015. The City hopes to acquire some of the pieces for permanent display and has created the Germantown Public Art Promenade Fund.

Supporters of the arts have an opportunity to make a tax deductible contribution to the fund toward the purchase of one or more of the pieces at the end of the display period. The sculptures are also available for private purchase. For information, contact Patricia Cooper at pcooper@germantown-tn.gov or 751-7664.
