Athletic club gets 10-year renewal

Collierville has renewed a 10-year contract with Desoto Athletic Club, which leases 7,400 square feet of the H.W. Cox Community Center and pays the town five percent of the gross revenue it collects.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the contract last week during their regularly scheduled meeting.
The club serves an estimated 847 members on any given day. While the town does not provide any level of staffing for the fitness area, it does pay all utilities for the H.W. Cox Community Center, of which DAC accounts for about 17 percent, or an average annual cost of $15,279.
To date, DAC has paid the town $425,342 since 2005.
In other news:
Board members approved an ordinance on second reading that would impose a $5 fee for every traffic citation that results in a guilty plea.
Four dollars of the proposed fee will be maintained in a special revenue account for the sole purpose of developing and operating an electronic traffic citation system.
The remaining dollar will be retained by the Collierville Court Clerk and used for computer hardware purchases.
If passed, the ordinance would be in effect for five years.
