Board trims field rental fees, OKs preliminary McDonald’s relocation

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen has agreed to further reduce field rental fees for competitive baseball and softball teams.

Board members voted Monday night to trim rental charges to $25 an hour for teams with a 70-percent local base of players and $15 an hour for teams with 90-percent. The recommendation was made by Chip Petersen, director of the town’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Earlier this month, board members voted on a fee reduction after listening to several local parents and coaches speak against rental costs. Board members agreed to lower the rate from $75 an hour to $35 for teams with at least 70 percent of its players residing in the town.

Teams with a 90-percent local player ratio would pay $25. At a Feb. 17 special work session, the Parks Advisory Board decided that the field rental policy should remain in effect as previously recommended. It was also suggested that the fees be lowered to $25 an hour for teams comprised of 70 percent local players and $15 an hour for those with 90 percent.

rp_clip_image002_027-300x161.jpgIn other news, board members approved a preliminary site plan for a more than 5,000-square-foot McDonald’s restaurant on 1.17 acres on the north side of Poplar Ave. west of New Byhalia Road. The property is part of the Byhalia Retail Center and will replace the nearby McDonald’s at 721 W. Poplar Ave.
