Board OKs traffic signals on Poplar

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved professional service agreements for traffic signals at two intersections along Poplar Ave.

Both projects will be designed by Kimley-Horn and Associates for a total of $58,380.

The first signal will go at Poplar Ave. and Collierville-Arlington Road.

“With the completion of Highway 385,” said Dale Perryman, town engineer, “the Poplar Ave. and Highway 385 interchange will become a major access point for residents of Collierville. One of the major intersections that will be used to access this interchange is Poplar Ave. and Collierville-Arlington Road.”

It is anticipated that construction for the project will be paid using Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds.

The second signal will be at Poplar Ave. and Peterson Lake Road.

Perryman said the town recently addressed concerns regarding traffic flow problems near the future University of Memphis satellite campus.

“One of the biggest issues raised by citizens who live along College Street was vehicular access to the campus,” Perryman said. “As a result, an alternate design with a driveway entrance at the intersection of PetersonLake and Poplar was considered.”

The signal system will be upgraded to improve the level of service at the two roads.8G-3
