The Miss Collierville Scholarship Pageant, an official preliminary of the Miss America Pageant, will be held Jan. 11, 2014 at the Harrell Theater, 440 W. Powell Road in Collierville.

Eighteen area young women will be competing for the two prestigious titles – Miss Collierville 2014 and Miss Collierville’s Outstanding Teen 2014.

Starting at 2 p.m., teen contestants will compete for the teen title and young princesses will be presented during a special coronation ceremony. Miss Collierville contestants will begin competing at 7pm.

More than $20,000 in educational scholarships will be awarded to this year’s Miss Collierville and Teen contestants.

“The Miss Collierville Scholarship Organization has a long history of providing scholarship and community advocacy for Collierville,” said Jessica Haas, Miss Collierville 2013. “Each winner will receive an educational scholarship, a host of prizes and the opportunity to compete at the 2014 Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant and Miss Tennessee Outstanding Teen Pageant.”

Both shows will feature large production numbers and exciting contestant competitions.

Contestants compete in five phases of competition: interview, talent, fitness, eveningwear and on-stage question. Tickets for the afternoon show are $10 and the evening show admission price is $15. All tickets are available at the door prior to the performance.

Shelby Thompson, Miss Tennessee 2013, will serve as the Emcee for the pageants, along with Miss Collierville/Miss Tennessee 2011 Erin Hatley. As Miss Tennessee, Shelby serves as Governor Haslam’s Official Spokesperson for Character Education and travels 70,000 miles speaking to 40,000 schoolchildren about the Character Education. Shelby is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.S. in Public Relations.

Known for its award-winning production, the 2014 theme is “Motown to Memphis” and will feature music made popular by America’s classic Motown artists, Elvis and gospel favorites.

Collierville’s Chandler Booth, who won the title of Miss Collierville’s/Miss Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen 2013, will featured along with singers and entertainers from eStudio under the direction of Erika Cobb and Lynden Lewis.

The Town of Collierville Parks and Recreation Department works with the Pageant along with the Collierville Arts Council, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Scholarship sponsors are Patton Computers, Schilling Farms, Triumph Bank, Boyle Investment Company, the Silver Caboose Restaurant and Patriot Bank.
