townsealCvilleThe Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved a more than $1.2 million general purpose budget for the town’s school board to operate during its seven-month transition period.

Board members voted Monday night during their regularly scheduled semi-monthly meeting at the request of Finance Director Jane Bevill. Alderman Tom Allen was the lone dissenter.

“During the transition from December to June,” Bevill said, “there will be expenses incurred by the school board and the office of the superintendent. A special revenue fund is needed to account for these expenditures.”

Bevill said the school system will operate like a branch of the town’s government until it is completely formed. Revenue from the town’s local option sales tax enacted in 2012 will pay for these expenses.

In other news: Board members approved a contract with Collierville Sports Officials Association to provide officiating and scorekeeping services for the town’s youth basketball program. The contract is not to exceed $30,934.
