Season ends for Dragons as 11-0 Whitehaven rolls

After scoring a first quarter touchdown against Whitehaven Friday night, the Collierville High School varsity football team was unable to revisit the end zone for the rest of the game and eventually fell 42-7 to the undefeated Tigers.
The Dragons traveled to Whitehaven last Friday for the first round of the 6A tournament.
Junior quarterback Clay Casey led Collierville’s offense with 127 passing yards, but threw two interceptions to the near impenetrable Tigers defense. Both interceptions were returned for Whitehaven touchdowns.
As they have all year, Whitehaven’s offense relied heavily on senior running back Mark Dodson, who finished the game with three touchdowns and nearly 250 rushing yards.
The Tigers got off to a fast start, with Dodson scoring on a 61-yard blast in the first quarter.
Whitehaven then scored on a pick-six when Casey was intercepted by senior defensive back and Vanderbilt signee Darius Sims.
The Dragons scored their first and only touchdown of the night on a red zone pass from Casey to senior running back Eric Jefferson.
Whitehaven scored twice in the second quarter on Dodson runs from 20 and 17 yards.
While Collierville’s defense struggled (as most have this year) to contain the Tiger’s run attack, the Dragons did limit the number of pass yard to 38 and nab one interception from Whitehaven quarterback Patrick Smith.
Whitehaven will host Southwind this Friday night for the second round of the 6A tournament. Southwind defeated Houston 28-13 to advance.
